“Urban Design for Sivas Kızılırmak River Bank” was opened to competition by the Municipality of Sivas in October 2016, and 1+1 were invited as one of the eight preselected teams to design Sivas Kızılırmak River Bank in March 2016. Competition asked the participants to propose a new “Urban Landscape” that will provide social, cultural, educational, sporting and recreational uses while at the same time regenerate the river bank with sustainable guidelines for the natural landscape. The 600 hectares sized competition area defines the river bank between two historic bridges within the site. 1+1 Architects were awarded the second prize with their proposal. The project primarily proposes a holistic layout that includes continuous networks, green spaces and connected squares that will provide an uninterrupted river experience. The project also proposes strong connections to the existing urban fabric. Main intention is to constitute a balance between the natural landscape and the built environment.
